Privacy Policy

Speed Snitch is a private family and fleet accountability tool. It is not a law-enforcement product and it does not issue official government citations. “Tickets” created in the app are private accountability notices between you and the people you designate.

1. Information we may collect or process

2. Why we use it

Location, speed and trip data exist to do the one job the app promises: compare your speed with the posted limit, warn you, and record a citation when you exceed the threshold. Driver name, email and phone are used only to address and deliver those citations. Device information supports troubleshooting. Subscription status controls access to Premium features. We do not use any of this data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

3. Background location use

On iPhone, Speed Snitch requests Always Allow location and uses Apple’s background location capability so an active trip keeps recording when your screen locks, a call comes in, or you switch to another app. On Android, an active trip runs as a foreground service with an ongoing “Trip in progress” notification, which is Android’s supported way to keep receiving location. Background monitoring never runs outside an active trip: it starts only when you tap Start trip and ends immediately when you tap End trip. While it is running, your phone displays its own background-location indicator, and the app shows whether background monitoring is On or Off.

Limits we will not overstate. If you force-quit Speed Snitch from the app switcher, or force-stop it in Android settings, your operating system stops the app and monitoring will not resume by itself — it stays off until you open Speed Snitch again. This is different from your phone terminating the app on its own to reclaim memory, which the app can recover from. A powered-off phone records nothing at all. Android battery optimization can also pause a trip; the app reports that state and lets you open Android’s settings yourself, and never changes that setting on your behalf.

Background location is used only for warnings, event records and trip reports — never for advertising, profiling or sharing with third parties. Microphone access is used only while you record a personalized warning, never during a trip. Speed Snitch cannot tell whether you were driving or riding as a passenger; a trip that has not been confirmed as a driver trip never results in a charge, fine, citation or penalty.

4. How information is stored

Your settings, citation history, scores and rewards are stored locally on your device. If you delete the app, that local data is deleted with it. Citation content that you choose to send is transmitted to our email delivery provider only for the moment it takes to deliver the message. Precise location is processed on your device and is not retained on our servers as a location history.

5. Service providers

6. Children and family use

Speed Snitch is intended for licensed drivers and the parents or fleet managers who supervise them. A parent or guardian who sets up the app for a household driver is responsible for informing that driver that their speed and location are being monitored.

7. Your choices and deletion requests

You can turn location off at any time in your device settings; the app simply stops tracking. You can clear driver details, citation history and rewards from within the app, or delete the app to remove all local data. To request deletion of anything we may hold — for example email delivery logs — email [your-support-email@example.com] from the address in question and we will action the request within 30 days.

8. Security

Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not put sensitive information into free-text fields such as custom penalty text.

9. Changes to this policy

We will update the effective date above when this policy changes and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app.

10. Contact

Questions, complaints or deletion requests: [your-support-email@example.com] ([Your Business Name]).

Draft: this document is a starting point provided with the app and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Because Speed Snitch handles location and driving information, have counsel review and customize it before public release.
